Authorities have pressed charges against a Detroit-area firearms instructor who accidentally shot a student in both legs.

WXYZ reported that 44-year-old Michael Hearn was arraigned Tuesday on a misdemeanor careless, reckless or negligent use of a firearm charge.

The charge stems from an incident that occurred April 27 at Firearms Exchange in Livonia, Michigan.

Police say Hearn was in the middle of teaching a concealed pistol license class when he drew his handgun and fired at the class room door, hitting a 38-year-old man in another classroom.

Hearn’s bond was set at $5,000, and a preliminary examination has been scheduled for May 25.
