Alleged child abuser gets 1 year for possessing unregistered guns, suppressor

A Baltimore man and alleged child abuser was sentenced Tuesday to one day and one year in prison for possessing unregistered firearms and for making a firearm.
According to a Justice Department news release, on Dec. 19, 2016, Baltimore Police found firearms they suspected to be unregistered while executing a search warrant at 35-year-old Joseph Goldman’s home.
The affidavit specifies the search warrant had been issued in relation to a child abuse investigation into Goldman.
Officers found and seized the following firearms from Goldman’s residence: from behind the couch in the first floor living room, a 5.56 short-barrel AR-15 with a silver 6.5-inch silencer attached; and from Goldman’s bedroom, a 12-gauge short-barrel shotgun and two semi-automatic pistols. Officers also found 20 rounds of ammunition, a machine vice, miscellaneous gun parts and tools.
Goldman admitted to sawing off the barrel of a shotgun and to making a short barreled rifle and a suppressor for the rifle. Goldman did not register the items with the National Firearms Registration and Transfer Record and thus violated the National Firearms Act.
In addition to the gun charges, the Baltimore Police have charged Goldman with rape, sexual offense, and other charges related to the child abuse investigation.
