Chicago: 6 dead, 15 wounded in weekend shootings

Chicago saw the bloodshed continue this weekend, with 6 people killed and at least 15 others wounded in shootings between Friday evening and Monday morning.

The Chicago Sun-Times reported the weekend’s first fatal shooting occurred on Saturday evening in the south side neighborhood of Fernwood. A man walked up to a 17-year-old boy and shot him multiple times in the chest and back. The teen, whose name has not been released, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The weekend’s final fatal shooting happened Sunday afternoon in the south side Englewood neighborhood. Eighteen-year-old Jamari Richmond was playing basketball when someone shot him while driving by in a vehicle. Richmond suffered a gunshot wound to the head and was later pronounced dead at a local hospital.

Four more people were killed and at least another 15 wounded in shootings throughout the city.

According to Sun-Times data, more than 1,150 people have been shot in Chicago so far in 2017. The city has already recorded over 200 homicides.
