Former firearms dealer gets 21 months for possessing unregistered machine gun

A former federally-licensed firearms dealer has been sentenced to 21 months in jail for possessing an unregistered machine gun.

According to a Justice Department news release, 72-year-old James William McMichael, of Port Allegany, Pennsylvania, violated federal firearms laws by possessing a machine gun that he failed to register in the National Firearms Registration and Transfer Record.

McMichael built the firearm with parts he had ordered and then hid the machine gun in the ceiling of his home.

In addition to the 21 months, McMichael was also sentenced to three years of supervised release.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Port Allegany Police Department investigated the case.
