Tennessee felon gets over 11 years for charges related to shooting

A Tennessee man was sentenced to over 11 years in prison Wednesday for charges related to a shooting outside a Knoxville hotel parking lot.
According to a Justice Department news release, 35-year-old Brandon Scott Woodley was convicted in December 2016 of possessing ammunition after having been previously convicted of a felony.
Witnesses testified at the trial that in August 2015 Woodley shot a co-worker in a hotel parking lot and tried to shoot the victim again but failed due to his gun jamming. Woodley then fled the scene and got rid of the firearm, which was never recovered. However, ammunition was recovered at the scene of the shooting and was used against Woodley during trial.
The shooting victim was hospitalized but has now fully recovered.
At the time of the shooting, Woodley was on a three-year supervised release after a 2009 conviction of being a felon in possession of firearms. Because of Woodley’s criminal record related to firearms and his drug use and trafficking, the judge tacked on 18 months to his original 120-month sentence for a total of 138 months.
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Knoxville Police Department investigated the case.
