Young father protects girlfriend, toddler during home invasion (VIDEO)

A 24-year-old Ohio man shot two men who broke into his Columbia Township home early Saturday morning.

The crime occurred just after 3 a.m. and Gary Gross, whose girlfriend and toddler were home during the break-in, said he did not recognize the suspects.

At first, Gross retrieved a hammer to confront the suspects, but after a brief struggle, he ran to his car to grab a gun. Gross opened fire, striking both men before they fled from the scene in a vehicle.

The suspects were located soon thereafter and transported to a local hospital where they were initially listed in critical and stable condition.

“Hopefully they’ll be okay and they’ll learn a lesson,” Gross said, noting that he did not want to kill anybody while also indicating he would do whatever it takes to protect his family.

“You have to do what you got to do,” Gross said. “You have to make sure that these guys do not make it to that back room. Your son is back there. If anything happens to you, he’s defenseless, she’s defenseless.”
