An individual is facing charges after that person’s family attempted to cross the Canadian border last month with 19 guns in tow.

According to a statement released Monday, officers with the Canadian Border Services Agency seized 15 long guns, four handguns, and numerous “over-capacity” magazines from the family.

The family, who was apparently headed to Alaska, was flagged for a secondary inspection at the Douglas border July 22 and a subsequent search of the their vehicle and trailer was conducted.

“This is a reminder to all travelers entering Canada with firearms to learn about Canadian firearm law or, rather, leave their handguns at home,” said Daniella Evans, CBSA’s director of the Pacific Highway District.

“Anyone bringing firearms or weapons into Canada must declare them to the border services officer upon entry. Failure to do some may lead to prosecution in a court of law,” Evans added.
