Rhode Island antique, gun shop catches fire

A fire erupted at an antique and gun shop in Pawtucket, Rhode Island, early Tuesday morning, but authorities say while the situation could have ended much worse, crews were able to contain the fire quickly and without too much damage.

“Obviously, with the contents of this building it could have been an extremely hazardous situation,” Pawtucket Fire Chief William Sisson said. “It’s an excellent stop by the crews that were on the scene.”

The blaze broke out around 6 a.m. at Lost Treasures, an antique store that also sold guns and ammo, none of which was damaged, Sisson said.

Authorities did not say what caused the blaze, but did confirm that it started outside, near the building, then quickly spread up the wall and through the attic and roof. Although there was no fire damage to the first floor of the building, it was left with a little water damage.

Three firefighters reportedly suffered minor injuries while battling the blaze, but are expected to by okay.
