Father of 2 shot in the face while trying to keep carjackers from taking his toddler (VIDEO)

A 38-year-old father of two was shot and killed during a carjacking in the Spring Garden area of Philadelphia Thursday night.

Authorities say Gerald Grandzol was in his SUV when he was approached by Maurice Roberts, 21, and his 16-year-old brother. One of the suspects was armed with a gun and they demanded Grandzol’s wallet. Grandzol handed over his wallet, but when the suspects tried to take his vehicle, he told them his 2-year-old daughter was inside. At that point, Grandzol was shot point blank in the head multiple times.

Grandzol was rushed to a nearby hospital, but despite efforts to save him, he died. Roberts and his teen brother, who will be charged as an adult, were apprehended Saturday evening.

Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector James Kelly said the crime, which was captured on a nearby security camera, was one of the most disturbing he has seen in nearly 30 years.
