Father accidentally shoots 2-year-old daughter while unloading gun (VIDEO)

A father is facing felony charges after he accidentally shot his 2-year-old daughter while unloading his gun in their Akron home Saturday afternoon.

Police say 27-year-old Dexter Brooks was unloading a handgun just before 3 p.m. and, after thinking the gun was empty, accidentally fire a round. The bullet traveled through a staircase and to a lower-level bathroom where it struck the girl in the head.

The girl was rushed to Akron Children’s Hospital, where she was last listed in critical condition. Brooks was arrested on charges of felony child endangering and taken to the Summit County Jail.

Brooks was arraigned Monday and due back in court Oct. 4.
