Teen arrested for selling stolen gun after posting social media pics

A 17-year-old boy was arrested last week after he shared photos on social media of him with a gun in the bathrooms of a North Charleston high school and his place of employment.

Deshaun Howard Tindal faces two gun charges, including possession of a stolen gun. He was taken to the Berkeley County Detention Center with a $20,000 bond.

Stall High School officials contacted the North Charleston Police Department after they learned of the photos.

“There’s a picture of what appears to be a gun on campus,” said district spokesman Andy Pruitt. “So, when that occurs, we have to defer to law enforcement.”

Officers went to Tindal’s home and, with the permission of his father, searched the teen’s bedroom, where they found an empty extended magazine. Tindal returned to the home while officers were still there, but claimed the gun in the photos was a BB gun that did not belong to him.

Nonetheless, Tindal had an outstanding warrant stemming from the sale of a stolen firearm, and was taken into custody.

The school district confirmed that Tindal will not return to the school in the “foreseeable future,” while noting such “behavior will not be tolerated” and the teen “will face serious consequences.”
