Federal launches new .224 Valkyrie line of MSR ammo (VIDEO)

Billed as the world’s first 1,300-yard supersonic MSR 15 cartridge, the low-recoiling .224 Valkyrie is set to be marketed in a number of loadings and a host of rifle makers are already on board with platforms.

In what looks to be a 6.8mm Remington SPC case necked down to .224, the new Valkyrie promises to fill the gap between upped .22 caliber rounds such as the .22 Nosler and the increasingly popular 6.5mm Creedmoor.

Among the planned factory loadings are a 100-grain Fusion MSR, 60-grain Nosler Ballistic Tip Varmint, a 90-grain Gold Medal Sierra Match King, and a 75-grain American Eagle. The target audience for the new round is broad, from long-range precision shooting to varmint and medium game sportsmen.

“It’s a supersonic symbol of defiance to those who said it couldn’t be done,” noted Federal Premium on social media.

Rifle makers to include Barrett, CMMG, JP Enterprises, LaRue Tactical, LMT Defense, LWRC, MasterPiece Arms, Mossberg, Q LLC, Savage and Seekins Precision are all reportedly working on bringing offerings using the new cartridge to market.

Odds are, you will probably be hearing a lot more about this round in coming weeks.
