The man responsible for the deadliest mass shooting in modern American history shot himself in the mouth after he mowed down 58 people attending a concert on the Las Vegas strip in October, according to county officials.
Clark County Coroner John Fudenberg released more details Thursday about how the victims of 64-year-old Stephen Paddock died — all from gunshot wounds, 18 of which were in the head. Six victims died after being shot multiple times, according to the coroner’s report.
It’s been nearly three months since Paddock opened fire from his hotel suite on the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino. Federal agents continue working the case, combing through evidence gathered at the 15-acre site where the Route 91 Harvest Festival occurred and conducting more than 400 interviews as they attempt to pin down a motive.
FBI Special Agent in Charge Aaron Rouse told the Las Vegas Review-Journal the agency will produce a report on the investigation before its one-year anniversary.
“Now that’s a long time for some people, but speaking for the FBI, that’s light speed, all right?” he said. “Ours is focusing a large part on the why, OK? Which is what everybody wants to know.”
