Decorated and renowned competitive shooter Julie Golob brings guns down kids’ level, launching a new book designed to help parents teach gun safety.

Toys, Tools, Gun & Rules: A Children’s Book About Gun Safety aims to motivate families to start the conversation regarding firearms with kids at an early age. Despite the somewhat polarizing effect guns occupy in American culture, Golob says with millions of guns in the U.S. it’s imperative adults teach young children the principles of firearm safety.

“I’ve been around firearms and the shooting sports all my life. As a mother of two young children, I wrote Toys, Tools, Guns & Rules to continue to teach my daughters about guns and firearm safety at a young age,” Golob said in a press release. “My goal is to provide parents this educational resource to help encourage an open conversation with kids, because gun safety is for everyone.”

The 40-page book written by Golob and illustrated by Nancy Batra, uses colorful imagery and comparisons of other tools to naturally start the gun talk. Points of topic include: how firearms work, dangerous parts of a gun, how to safely use a gun and what to do if a firearm is found unattended.

In addition to addressing kids on their level, Golob includes helpful tips for parents on how to continue the talk and make the most out of the book. Additional resources, such as printout coloring sheets, are available at the book’s website.

Toys, Tools, Guns & Rules can be found in paperback for $9.99 or e-book for $7.99 on Amazon.
