Fans of slim, single-stack pistols chambered in .45 ACP have a new option with Springfield Armory bringing its newest handgun variant to market.

Springfield introduced on Monday the new XD-S pistol design chambered in a .45 caliber option, according to the company’s announcement. The news comes a week before the gun industry’s annual trade show in Las Vegas.

According to the announcement, the new gun has a host of new features including “Point and Shoot Ergonomics” along with a higher hand position, enhanced grip texturing, and a thinner slide.

The XD-S Mod.2 also features more options for sights: fiber optic front, Tritium night sights, or red Varidian Laser. Features that carry over include a loaded chamber indicator and grip safety, plus a special emphasis on the gun’s drop safety.

The handgun comes with two stainless steel magazines: a flush-fitting five-round mag and a six-round mag with Mid-Mag X-Tension. The slide has a forged steel construction with black Melonite finish, and a polymer frame.

The gun’s barrel measures in at 3.3 inches, putting the overall length at 6.5 inches and weight at 22.5 ounces unloaded. MSRP is $568-$618, depending on options.
