The classic .44 Auto Mag Pistol has been out of production for over 30 years, but that has changed and the iconic pistol is now shipping again.

Billed as the “Aristocrat of Big Bore Handguns” at the time of its introduction in 1969, the Auto Mag Pistol fired the most powerful production handgun round on the market. Now, in a joint effort between the rebooted Auto Mag and Excel Arms, a small run of hand produced Founders Edition pistols are shipping and production models of the AMP will be offered in both 6.5 and 8.5-inch barrel configurations with additional calibers and variants coming soon.

Excel’s Vice President, Richard Gilliam, told Guns.com in an email that, taking advantage of CNC technology and materials, the current AMP is greatly improved over the original design.
