Authorities determined a former University of Georgia football player acted in self-defense when he killed a man outside a sports bar last year, but they charged him with felony drug possession.
The Colquitt County District Attorney’s Office filed charges against Vance Ervin Cuff, 29, for possessing more than an ounce of marijuana, which authorities discovered when conducting their investigation into the shooting death of Dewayne Williams, 28, last February.
Cuff was involved in a confrontation with Williams on Feb. 4, 2017, according to reports. Williams was shot multiple times and died at the scene.
Police heard the gunshots as they were investigating the shooting of Williams’ brother, Darian Williams, about a quarter mile away. However, the brother wasn’t killed but rather paralyzed in the legs because as a result of the attack.
Officers responding to the incident discovered the marijuana on Cuff at the time of the shooting.
