Rimfire classic: The Remington Model 552 Speedmaster (VIDEO)

First manufactured in 1957, the Speedmaster has been around for over half a century and, as noted by Jeff Quinn, “it’s probably one of finest .22 semi-automatic rifles ever made.”

Designed for Big Green back when Gunsmoke was one of the most popular shows on television, the Model 552s big claim to fame was that it was one of the only American-made autoloaders able to run .22 Short, Long and Long Rifle interchangeably. Quinn even stokes it with some CCI Quiet loads, which run a 40-grain bullet at a low velocity– 710 feet per second– and is billed as being hearing safe without a suppressor.

Of course, new 552s have an MSRP of $700-ish, but they are still pretty sweet little rifles.
