Smith & Wesson expands its lineup of M&P M2.0 Compact Pistols, introducing a new model featuring a shorter-barrel.

The 3.6-inch M2.0 variant boasts a smaller barrel for a more compact design, but still carries the same features as the longer barreled M2.0 pistols to include the 15-round capacity.

“When we launched the M&P M2.0 Compact pistol series with a 4-inch barrel last September, we knew it was just the first step in expanding the popular Compact pistol size offering. During the development process, there was considerable interest in a shorter, 3.6-inch barrel concept, and with this introduction, we’re now able to offer our consumers a lighter, shorter compact pistol for concealed carry,” Jan Mladek, General Manager of Smith & Wesson and M&P brands, said in a news release. “While the barrel length is shorter, the M&P M2.0 Compact 3.6-inch pistol maintains the 15 round, 9mm magazine capacity of the Compact series – an important requirement for many of our customers.”

The M2.0 pistol is available with or without an ambidextrous thumb safety and sports a bevy of features. The 3.6-inch M2.0 is equipped with an aggressively-textured grip, four interchangeable palmswell grip inserts and M2.0 trigger with tactile, audible reset. A white dot front sight and white two-dot rear sight finishes off the design.

Smith & Wesson said the pistols is available in either 9mm or .40 S&W, with a 15-round magazine shipping alongside the 9mm version and a 13-round mag shipping with the .40. The new 3.6-inch M2.0 retails for $569.
