Early AK variants 101, courtesy of Kalashnikov (VIDEO)

Vladimir Onokoy, a tech guy with Kalashnikov who speaks pretty good English, talks up the inventor’s pedigree, addresses the 70-year running argument in the “AK was based on the StG” fracas and shows off a few early AK variants to include a pre-production gun made by the Izhevsk motorcycle factory, as well as later Type 1, 2 and 3 guns.

Not bad for less than 5-minutes.
