Mossberg introduces new Retrograde 500, 590 shotguns

Walnut furniture makes a return on the newest variants of Mossberg’s model 590A1 Tactical and 500 Persuader series 12 gauge shotguns.

The new Retrograde 590A1 offering mates the standard 9+1 capacity 590-series tactical shotgun with a full-length walnut stock and corncob forend. Like the rest of its line, it uses a heavy-walled 20-inch barrel, features a metal trigger assembly and safety button, and comes standard with a heat shield and bayonet lug similar to military combat shotguns. Cylinder bore, it comes with factory ghost ring sights. True to form, it sports a parkerized finish. MSRP is $902.

The Retrograde 590A1 is 7.25-pounds in weight and has an overall length of 41-inches with a 14.5-inch length of pull on the stock. (Photos: Mossberg)

The Retrograde Persuader 500 uses an 18.5-inch barrel and offers a 6+1 capacity. Like the Retro 590A1, is has walnut furniture but is topped with the standard brass bead front. It has a blued finish rather than the 590’s more mil-spec park job. Retail is $504.

The Retrograde Persuader 500 weighs in at 6.25-pounds and has an overall length of 39.5-inches.

Both the 500 and 590 series use non-binding twin action bars, dual extractors, an anti-jam elevator, and an ambidextrous top-mounted safety. Mossberg says they have sold more than 12 million of the shotguns in all variants since the design was introduced in the 1960s.
