Expanding the company's pistol line to offer more guns to the concealed carry market, FN this week announced the new FN 509 Compact series.

The new 9mm double-stacks, available in black and flat dark earth, offer up to 15-round magazines in a gun that runs about as long as a Glock 26 sub-compact. Overall length is just 6.8 inches with a 3.7-inch barrel. Shipping complete with low-profile iron sights, the FN 509 Compact tips the scales at 25.5 ounces.

The FN 509 Compact has an MSRP of $679. This puts it about $120 cheaper than the similarly-sized FN 509 Compact MRD, which is optics ready, and about $370 less than the FN 509 Compact Tactical, which has a threaded barrel, an optics cut, and suppressor-height night sights. With that, the gun can be seen as a good option for someone who likes the concept of a pint-sized 509, but doesn't anticipate using one with a red dot or suppressor.

“The FN 509 Compact model complements the Compact MRD, equipped with our patented optics-mounting system, and offers users an all-new concealed carry option in the FN 509 family,” said Chris Cole, vice president of sales and marketing for FN America. “The low-profile carry sights with high-visibility front sight make this an ideal choice for professional and civilian CCW users.”
