This spring’s Big Sandy Shoot, which takes place bi-annually near the town of Wikieup, Arizona, is happening. After so many events being canceled as a result of the Coronavirus pandemic, this is great news.
LAST TWO EVENTS CANCELED
The event dates were recently announced on the social media page of the organizers: March 19 to 21, 2021. Both events during 2020 were canceled. The spring shoot was canceled because of high water levels, and the fall event because of COVID-19.
The other big machine gun shoot that takes place in Kentucky at the Knob Creek Range was canceled all last year, and this year’s spring shoot is canceled too. One of the big differences between the two events is that the Big Sandy Shoot is entirely outdoors and there’s usually some wind.
PEOPLE ARE EXCITED
Reaction to the announcement on the Big Sandy’s social media pages is overwhelmingly positive. A fan named Zander Cage wrote; “This shoot is gonna be crazy, everybody will have stocked up for a year and a half. Can't wait!!” Another fan named Cole Keane wrote; "Hell yeah! Can’t wait!!!”
ONCE IN A LIFETIME EVENT
Guns.com has attended the event many times, and we highly recommend it. If you want to shoot on the line, you need to register on the Big Sandy website and pay a fee. If you just want to attend, simply show up and pay a small fee for each day or the whole weekend. You can also rent machine guns. Don't forget your ear and eye protection ... as well as your camera.
You can camp for free in the parking lot of the event. There are portable toilets, but there is no running water. It can be warm during the day, but chilly at night. So make sure you are prepared. There is a food truck on the firing line that serves food all day long. The nearest town with motels and food is Wikieup, which is about a thirty-minute drive away. Or you can go to Kingman, which is about an hour away.
