Christmas Gun Greetings Spark Heartburn Among Pearl Clutchers
A pair of social media posts over the weekend from public officials involving guns and season’s greetings drew some outsized backlash from haters.
Santa CCW flak
Colorado's El Paso County Sheriff's Office, located in Colorado Springs, posted a seemingly innocuous photo to Twitter on Friday with a very St. Nick-looking gentleman shown applying for a concealed carry permit.
"Guess who came in to receive his Concealed Handgun Permit today? 🎅," said the Department. "Did you know the El Paso County Sheriff's Office has issued 49,750 Concealed Handgun Permits with another 2,560 awaiting to be issued?"
The tweet picked up an easy 2K likes and even more quote tweets. It also got some grumbles from blue checkmark Dems and members of gun control groups. Enough, apparently, for the agency to have to follow up with, "EPSO intended to highlight our staff in the Concealed Handgun Permit Office, not to be insensitive. Santa correlates to the month of December and we thought he would help to recognize our hard-working staff," because people just can't take a joke.
Making even more friends with anti-gun types and the mainstream media, Massie on Saturday tweeted an impressive family photo in front of the tree with everyone holding an assortment of fashionably black rifles and belt-fed machine guns, with the congressman himself sporting an M60.
"Merry Christmas! 🎄 ps. Santa, please bring ammo," said the tweet, picking up 80K likes.
With the predictable reaction:
Among the best responses was to one tweeter who commented, "The bar was on the floor, but somehow you managed to tunnel underneath it," sparking a response from Massie of, "The BAR is under the couch."
