Florida-based B&T USA this week announced a new carbine version of its SPC9 series platform.
The Special Purpose Carbine 9 was recently introduced to meet a European police tender for a 9mm carbine with the same ergonomics as an AR platform and, as such, blends features from B&T's in-house APC9 series guns with that of the HK MP5 and AR with the modularity of being offered with lowers to accept Glock, P320, or B&T 9mm mags.

The SPC9 Carbine goes longer, with a 16-inch hammer-forged barrel inside a handguard fitted with a Picatinny top rail and M-LOK accessory slots. The surface controls, including the bolt catch/release, mag catch, and safety/selector switch, are all ambidextrous and mirrored on each side of the lower receiver.

The SPC9 series also includes two different ambi charging handles – a folding, retracting and not-reciprocating forward handle in the handguard as well as a more traditional AR-style handle on the rear of the upper.
Other features include a Mission First Tactical 6-position M4-type telescopic stock on a buffer tube that will accept any MIL-SPEC size AR-type stock, and a hydraulic buffer system. (Graphic: B&T)
B&T feels the SPC9 Carbine will do well either in practical shooting or to fill personal defense roles.
"The new 16-inch barreled SPC9 is a PCC competitor's dream — the carbine is incredibly flat shooting, handles like a race car, and has minimal recoil thanks to B&T’s effective hydraulic buffer system,” said Jon Scott, VP of sales at B&T USA. "Those in search of a premium home defense solution would be well served by this very lightweight, well balanced, and incredibly easy to shoot well platform — flatteringly so."
