Federal Ammunition marked a key expansion last week as it broke ground on a new facility in Coon Rapids, Minnesota.

The addition to Federal's operations is a multi-million-dollar, 100,000 sq. ft. raw materials warehouse on the eastern part of the company's 175-acre property in Anoka County. It adds to the nearly 1 million square feet of legacy manufacturing and operations space and is its first major building in Coon Rapids. Company officials stressed the new warehouse will help streamline operations, storing tons of raw materials adjacent to the factory, which turns them into finished products. This, in the end, is a win for the ammo-buying public.

"This project will improve efficiency in our manufacturing process by storing, in close proximity and in one location, the raw materials needed to build ammunition for our loyal customers," said Federal’s President Jason Vanderbrink. "I see this as the next big step in continuing our marketplace leadership and expanding our progress as the largest ammunition manufacturer that we are today."

Federal's Anoka location already employs some 1,500 in a 24-7 operation that makes four types of finished ammo products – shotshell, rifle, handgun, and rimfire ammunition – plus bullet and primers as reloading components. The 100-year-old company is part of the publicly traded Vista Outdoor (VSTO), which includes sister ammo companies CCI/Blazer, Hevi, Remington, and Speer.
