CZ has delivered the third generation installment of its popular 712 series 12 gauge semi-auto multipurpose shotgun to the market.

Announced earlier this month, the 712 G3 follows up on the circa 2005 original and 2009 G2 model with three new variants. Keeping the same 712 action along with a 3-inch magnum chamber, the updates to the third-gen models include a slightly redesigned receiver that has a better fitment to the forend, an oversized bolt handle, a larger and easier-to-manipulate bolt closure button, and relocated cross-bolt safety button, and bolt lock. Another big bonus from past generations is a set of included stock-to-receiver shims to better customize the butt stock and pistol grip to the user, for instance allowing left-handed shooters to change cast to allow their left eye to align better with the rib.

The old 712s use .730 bore choke tubes while the new G3 variants include a five-pack of extended .735 bore Active-Choke (F, IM, M, IC, C) tubes. All have a 7mm flat vent top barrel rib and offer a 3+1/2+1 capacity with 2.75-inch and 3-inch shells, respectively.

The 712 G3 weighs approximately 6.5 to 7.25 pounds, depending on the variant with three models available from CZ going into 2023-- the all-purpose 712 G3 Synthetic Camo Terra, a more traditional 712 G3 Wood Stock model, and a 712 G3 Utility.
