SIG Makes it Official: P320 M18 Now Available in California
As a result of a 2A victory in the courts against the state's unrealistic certification requirements for new semi-auto pistols, a true California-compliantSIG Sauer P320 model is now available.
In the case of Boland v. Bonta, U.S. District Judge Cormac J. Carney in March granted a preliminary injunction preventing the state from asking what some have deemed to be impossible: that new semi-auto handguns certified for sale to the public include not only a chamber load indicator and a magazine disconnect mechanism but also a microstamping feature – which no gun in current production contains.
With the vaporware microstamping requirement-- what some argued was an intentional slow-motion ban on all modern handguns-- vaporized by the courts, at least for now, SIG was able to submit a variant of the popular P320 that was approved for sale and added to the state's roster. Sharp-eyed California gun advocates like Reno May, who is one of the plaintiffs on the Boland case, noticed the addition back in July and SIG made it official this week.
"The California P320-M18 is an exciting, long-waited, new release from SIG Sauer as it’s the very first opportunity for California enthusiasts to finally own a P320," said Tom Taylor, chief marketing officer and executive vice president for Commercial Sales at SIG. "Additionally, Californians can now own the sidearm of the U.S. Military. The P320-M18 CA shares the same features as the firearm that was awarded the U.S. Army contract for the Modular Handgun System (MHS), and is in service with the Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marines."
The P320-M18 CA FCU can be exchanged between grip modules, slides, and other accessories, and ships with three 10-round magazines.
