New Hampshire-based SIG Sauer continues to build on the rebooted P226 XFive competition pistol series, this time with a new Legion variant.
For those unfamiliar, the hyper-accurate Xfive was hard to get on this side of the Atlantic. Essentially a match-quality single-action-only 226 longslide with a 5-inch barrel, the original was a Teutonic range beast, tipping the scales at almost 50 ounces due to the fact it was all stainless steel except for the grips. They shipped with a 25-meter target that usually showed all-touching bullet holes neatly punched in the paper.
Discontinued in 2012, they were reintroduced last year with new optics-ready models made here in the U.S. in two variants: a Classic with custom Hogue Cocobolo grips and an STAS model with black Hogue Piranha grips and a sport takedown lever that acts like a "gas pedal."
Now, the P226 XFive Legion tones down the bright stainless-steel competition gun look for a signature Cerakote Elite Legion Gray finish, complete with black TXG grip panels with an integrated mag well.
The slide includes a two-port expansion chamber for reduced recoil, while the pistol ships standard with the all-new AX3 three-way, fully adjustable, flat-faced SAO trigger. Other standard features are suppressor-Height XRAY3 front and adjustable rear sights and an optics-ready slide.
The P226 XFive Legion ships with all the standard Legion accessories as well as a trio of 20-round magazines with alloy base pads, with 10-rounders available for those in less free states.
