Georgia-based Daniel Defense started taking pre-orders for the new-and-improved DD H9 pistol on Monday, and the response was so great that the company's website crashed.
As reported by Guns.com from SHOT Show, the H9 was debuted by the company following a million-round R&D cycle that spanned over three years to deliver an updated and fully developed platform to the public.
It turns out, the demand was palpable.
Shortly after 9 a.m. on Monday, the company sent out an email blast directing those interested in the pistol to their website, which almost immediately became non-functional. Two hours later, a follow-up email read, "Due to unprecedented demand for the Daniel H9, our site was momentarily overwhelmed, and orders were halted. But we have good news: We're back, and you're still the first to know that the Daniel H9 is available for pre-order."
First teased in 2017 by Texas-based Hudson Manufacturing – which at the time said they had spent more than three years developing the original H9 – the innovative pistol blends a full-sized pistol with a double-stack single-feed 9mm mag, extremely low bore axis, and a straight pull 1911-style trigger to bring a controllable and accurate handgun to market.
However, Hudson ran into problems with production and closed its doors in 2019, after which Daniel Defense acquired the assorted patents used by the platform and kicked off the process to bring the new DD H9 over the finish line, capping a decade of effort between the two entities with its (re)introduction at SHOT this year.
Daniel Defense says the DD H9 will be shipping within 90 days.
