AR10 A4

Armalite AR10 A4

The Armalite AR10 A4 is a semi-automatic tactical rifle chambered in .308 Win. or 7.62 NATO.

Armalite actually produced the M16 in its early years and the AR10A4 chambered in 7.62 NATO is pretty close to the original because the US military, at the time, considered 7.62 NATO its standard round.

Though, the current standard US military round is the 5.56 NATO, many law enforcement agencies and military forces in European, African and Central and South American countries use the AR10.

Armalite considers the AR10 an all-purpose rifle and recommends it for tactical use, competitive and leisure shooting.

The AR10A4 uses a gas-operated system, so after the projectile exits the barrel the propellant gases are captured in a tube that cycles back to push the bolt back in turn delivers recoil. The delayed recoil ensures the combustion doesn’t disrupt the shooter’s accuracy.

Features include a forward assist, which is a useful device if a round doesn’t slide all the way in place inside the chamber. All the shooter has to do is tap a button located beside the trigger that controls an internal “assistant” which nudges the round forward. It has a tactical two-stage trigger that sets off the action with a little creep before it breaks.

The chrome-lined bore is corrosion resistant. And, although it doesn’t have any sights it does have a Picatinny rail for easy mounting for sights or a scope.

Optional features include a National match two-stage trigger, which registers at 4.5 to five pounds, and there’s also a AR10A4 Carbine, too.

It uses a shorter barrel by four-inch and weighs about a pound less. Unlike the standard model, the Carbine comes with sights that are adjustable for windage and elevation. It also has a Picatinny rail for easy mounting of additional sights or a scope.

The Carbine is available with multiple Picatinny rail system, too.
