Series 70

The Colt Model 70 is a semi-automatic large-frame pistol chambered in .45 ACP.

The Model 70 is a replica of the classic Colt GI Model that served the U.S. military from 1911 until Colt updated the mechanics in 1971. This homage to old-school 1911s, but with a modern touch with its titanium firing pin.

The 1911 has a long history with the US military and, in some ways, became the archetype for pistols today because of its simple design that has remained relatively unchanged since its introduction. One feature that makes it so popular is its light recoil, especially for a .45. The recoil is absorbed by its heavy frame and, interestingly enough, the 1911 is recoil operated. So the expanding gases that push the projectile out also forces the slide back and by doing so ejects the casing and chambers another round.

The Model 70 is intended to give purist shooters a chance to own the “original” 1911 in time for the 1911’s 100th anniversary.
