Vz. 58

The CZ Vz. 58 is a semi-automatic rifle chambered in 7.62x39mm. The Vz. 58 remains the standard issue service rifle in both the Czech Republic and Slovakia. The rifle resembles an AK-47 aesthetically but differs drastically internally due to a short-stroke gas piston, which shares no parts with the AK-47 design. The gun was discontinued by the manufacturer in 2010.

The Vz. 58 has a 16.14″ blued barrel and a total weight of 6.4 lbs. The stock is made of wood-impregnated plastic and is military-style. The detachable magazine has a capacity of 30. The rifle uses a trigger mechanism with a lever-type fire mode selector, which is also a manual safety against accidental discharge. The rifle has fully adjustable front post iron sights and a tangent rear sight.

Česká zbrojovka translates as “Czech Army”, so it comes as no surprise then that CZ firearms has a long history of supplying weapons to militaries around the globe. The CZ name can be found on a variety of handguns, smallbore and bigbore rifles, military rifles and submachine guns.
