The Heckler and Koch Universal Self-loading Carbine is a semi-automatic rifle chambered in .45 ACP. The USC is the civilian version of the HK UMP and was introduced following the US Assault Weapons Ban of 1994. Changes also include a thumbhole grip, a 16″ barrel and a 10-round magazine.

The USC uses a blowback where the motion from the fired cartridge casing is used to propel the rearward motion of the bolt as the spent casing is ejected and a new round is loaded.

Features include a cold hammer forged barrel. A process where a machine to carefully carved grooves into the bore, and is known to be accurate and durable.
