P220

The Sig Sauer P220 is a semi-automatic large-frame pistol chambered for .45 ACP. Sig Sauer  originally designed the P220 to replace the P210 and since its introduction in 1975, the pistol has grown into a family with 15 models. Sig has used it as the basis for the P225, P226, P228 and P229 models.

The P220 uses the same action as Browning’s Hi-Power pistol, which is a locked-breech system where the recoil is absorbed by a spring and guide rod rather than the frame.

Features include a stainless steel slide coated in Nitron brand protective finish for increased corrosion resistance. The P220’s frame is constructed of lightweight alloy and features a short Picatinny rail for easy mounting of accessories as well as the Sig four-point safety system. This system includes decocking lever, so shooters can switch from a double-action or single-action trigger. It has a patented automatic firing pin safety block and a safety intercept notch, which is an internal safety block, and trigger bar disconnector.

The P220 is currently used by various law enforcement and military forces around the world that include Vatican City’s Swiss Guards, the Iranian military and the US Park Rangers just to name a few.
