Model S&W 500

The Smith and Wesson Model S&W 500 is an extra-large frame revolver chambered in .500 S&W Magnum. The 500 was introduced in 2003 along with its cartridge, which is the largest available in the commercial market for revolver ammo. It has a heavy stainless steel frame putting its average weight around 4 pounds. Besides the heavy frame, to help tame the recoil it has a compensator. The compensator releases propellant gases slightly before the muzzle in turn reducing recoil. Many reviewers have said the 500’s recoil isn’t horrible, but it isn’t exactly for novice shooters either. S&W recommends the S&W 500 for hunting just about anything.
