XD Service Model 4"

The Springfield X-Treme Duty Service Model 4” is a semi-automatic pistol chambered for 9mm, .40 S&W, .357 SIG and .45 GAP. The Service Model 4” is one of a variety of XD polymer framed variations offered by Springfield. The XD series is manufactured by HS Produkt in Karlovac, Croatia, and is modeled after the HS2000, a standard issue Croatian military and police service pistol designed in the 1990s.

Springfield sells the XD series domestically and has expanded the XD line to include a variety of calibers and sizes.

The Service Model is similar to the XD .45 ACP Compact model in size. Otherwise features include a grip safety, meaning the gun can only be fired when the hand firmly depresses the safety located at the rear of the handle. The XD series also includes a patented Ultra Safety Assurance trigger system, which guards against accidental discharge. The USA only allows the gun to be fired when direct rearward pressure is applied to the trigger, eliminating the possibility of an accidental discharge if the gun is dropped or bumped.

The XD has a striker status indicator that protrudes from the rear of the steel slide when the striker mechanism is cocked. In addition, it has a loaded chamber indicator, which is a thin piece of metal that pops up when a round is in the chamber.

Unique to the XD series, the Service Model is chambered in four different cartridges including the .357 SIG and .45 GAP. The .357 SIG was developed by Swiss firearms manufacturer Sig Sauer as a self-defense cartridge similar to a .357 Mag. The advantage of the .357 SIG is that it is tamed enough to manage with a semi-auto pistol. And, the .45 GAP was originally developed for Glock.

The .45 GAP is meant to provide a cartridge similar in power to the .45 ACP, but sized to fit a more compact handgun
