XD Sub-Compact 3"

The Springfield X-Treme Duty 3” Sub-Compact is a semi-automatic pistol chambered in 9mm and .40 S&W. The XD series is manufactured by HS Produkt in Karlovac, Croatia. It is modeled on the HS2000, a standard issue Croatian military and police service pistol designed in the 1990s. Springfield sells the XD series domestically and has expanded the XD line to include a variety of calibers and sizes.

Compared to the standard XD and Compact, the XD Sub-compact 3” is considerably smaller. It has a height of 4.75” and its aggregate length is is 6.25” with a total weight of 1.625 pounds. The XD Sub-Compact also features a dual spring and guide rod system. By using a dual spring system, less torque is placed upon the guide rod and spring.

Otherwise features include a grip safety, meaning the gun can only be fired when the hand firmly depresses the safety located at the rear of the handle. The XD series also includes a patented Ultra Safety Assurance trigger system, which guards against accidental discharge. The USA only allows the gun to be fired when direct rearward pressure is applied to the trigger, eliminating the possibility of an accidental discharge if the gun is dropped or bumped. The XD has a striker status indicator that protrudes from the rear of the steel slide when the striker mechanism is cocked. In addition, it has a loaded chamber indicator, which is a thin piece of metal that pops up when a round is in the chamber.

The XD Sub-Compact comes standard with 3-dot fixed sights, but tritium or Trijicon night sights are also available (add about $100).
