The Weatherby Mark XXII is a bolt-action rifle chambered in .22 LR and .17 HMR calibers. Weatherby designed the Mark XXII as a competitive shooting rifle that would be comparable to the famous Anschutz rifles.

The Vanguard Mark XXII has a button rifled, free floating barrel. In button rifled barrels, metal button tool is passed through the bore under high pressure in order to carve the grooves. Free floating barrels do not come in contact with the stock, meaning that when a barrel heats and swells, it won’t press agasint the stock. According to the manufacturer, the Mark XXII barrel is “built to exacting international competition specifications.”

Features include a Monte Carlo walnut stock with maplewood spacers. The steel barrel and receiver has a satin luster blue finish.  The Vanguard Varmint Special also includes a basket-weave recoil pad. The Vanguard Mark XXII is also equipped with a fully adjustable trigger that is initially factory-tuned to 3.5 pounds, as well as a quick release magazine that releases at the push of a button.

Weatherby recommends the Mark XXII for range shooting or small game hunting.
