A manufacturer of well-made, reliable revolvers, Charter Arms was founded in 1964 by Douglas McClennahan, who had the vision to make high-quality firearms without a high price tag.
His dream was realized with the introduction of the Undercover, a sturdy, steel-framed revolver that was small, lightweight, and, most of all, affordable. It was crafted with a proprietary hammer block system, which offered unparalleled protection against accidental discharge.
The Undercover also boasted the fewest moving parts of any revolver on the market. The Undercover was hugely successful and became the platform for numerous Charter Arms revolvers which were to follow.
For more than 50 years, Charter Arms has continued to embrace McClennahan’s original ideas. The company continues its commitment to producing handguns with the highest of standards and the lowest of prices.
Currently based in Shelton, Connecticut, Charter Arms remains an American-made company, producing every product with 100% American-made parts.
Charter Arms currently produces a dozen different lines of revolvers, with an array of choices in size, caliber, features, finishes, and other options. Some of the most popular models include the Pitbull, the Pathfinder, the Bulldog, and their hallmark revolver, the Undercover.
The patented design of the Pitbull includes a dual coil spring assembly in its rimless cartridge extractor, permitting easy insertion and retentions of cartridges in each chamber of the cylinder. Unlike most revolvers, spent cartridges are ejected for immediate reloading. This revolver features steel construction and rubber grips with finger grooves. It is available with a nitride or stainless finish and is chambered in 9mm, 40 S&W, or 45 ACP.
The Pathfinder is a versatile 22-caliber revolver made with either stainless steel or aluminum. A great choice for the novice shooter or anyone else who seeks a low-recoil revolver. It offers the look, feel, and weight of a higher-caliber handgun, making it an excellent option to gain proficiency while utilizing relatively inexpensive ammo. Chambered for 22 LR or 22 Mag, the Pathfinder is manufactured with a black, lavender, or pink finish, in addition to a stainless option.
Rugged, reliable, and ready to deliver stopping power, the Bulldog is chambered in 44 Special and suitable for personal protection and home defense. The 2.5” barrel, as well as the size and functionality of this revolver, make it a larger-caliber option for concealed carry. It features a rubber grip with finger grooves and steel construction, with a stainless or black finish.
The classic Charter Arms revolver that started it all, the Undercover is small, lightweight, and perfect for concealed carry. It is chambered in 38 Special, features steel construction, and is offered in several different finishes.
Charter Arms was founded with the idea to provide high-quality handguns at an affordable price. That idea still holds true more than half a century later.
The Pitbull and the Bulldog each sell for around $400 to $450. The Pathfinder typically lists for about $300 to $350, while the Undercover sells for just slightly more, with an average price tag of about $375.
