Making its debut appearance at SHOT Show 2023 in Las Vegas, Canik took its popular Mete handgun line down the micro-compact road with the launch of the new MC9 pistol.

Designed specifically for concealed carry, Canik says it spent the last three years developing the MC9 to meet consumer demand for an updated concealed carry handgun. Changes include internal and aesthetic modifications, but the company that boasts “Superior Firearms” as its tagline also states it wasn’t interested in rushing the gun into production.

“Being first to market was never the goal for us” said Canik USA National Marketing Director Adam Ruonala. “The MC9 is the perfect example of Canik’s commitment to take our time and do things the right way. We thought this out, we considered every option, we listened to what was really asked for, and we created a platform that meets all of the needs of a relatively new space in the handgun market. The Canik Mete MC9 truly was Prepared Superior.”

The new 9mm Mete MC9 hosts a standard 12+1 capacity or 15+1 with its included extended magazine. Total length comes to just 6.1 inches with a width of 1.12 inches and a height of 4.52 inches. Sporting a 3.18-inch barrel, the gun weighs in at 21.2 ounces, making it lighter than the somewhat-comparable Glock 26 with two extra rounds added to its native capacity.

In keeping with the modern red-dot trend, the MC9 comes as an optics-ready package with 100-percent co-witness capability. Each gun will come with two magazines, an IWB holster, three backstrap sizes, toolkit with included punch, speed loader, pinky rest, and cleaning kit. So, basically, the now standard extras-heavy Canik kit.

Initial options will come in black, flat dark earth, and two-tone black/FDE with a relatively entry-friendly price tag of $439.99, though cheaper options are likely with that being the stated MSRP. Canik fans can expect availability to kick in sometime in March 2023.
