FN on Tuesday announced it is expanding the 510 and 545 series beyond Tactical models with a pair of more carry-friendly MRD variants.
Whereas the FN 510 and FN 545 Tac models, introduced earlier this year, sport 4.71-inch extended threaded barrels, protective "dog ear" housings around the rear sights, and ship with extended magazines, the new MRD models run more standard-length 4.1-inch barrels, have 15+1 round magazines, and drop the ears for a more traditional look.
With dimensions just slightly bigger than a 9mm FN 509 MRD, the company feels these two big-bore pistols are ideal for users who want to carry a larger caliber and meet consumer demands for trimmed-down models.
"Following the overwhelmingly positive response to the FN 510 and 545 Tactical, which released in January, we received customer feedback requesting models in these calibers with flush-fit barrels, day sights, and magazines that were more carry-friendly, as well as accessible in states that restrict threaded barrels or capacity,” said Chris Cole, FN's VP of Sales and Marketing. "These MRD models, following the successful formula of the FN 509 MRD models, feature our patented optics mounting technology in a 15-round grip frame optimized for accuracy and shootability."
Another driver that consumers may find to their liking is that the FN 510 and FN 545 MRD models have an MSRP of $919, which is easier on the wallet than the $1,139 ask on the Tac models in the same family.
