Meet the BRX1
The Beretta BRX1 is a modern repeating rifle or “straight pull” bolt-action hunting and precision rifle with a forward-thinking design. It’s a little different than a traditional bolt-action hunting rifle, so let me break down why you may want one.
One major difference between the BRX1 rifle and other hunting rifles is the safety mechanism. Located on the bolt assembly, it is accessible with your thumb while holding the rifle in the firing position. It’s reminiscent of the safeties on Beretta’s upland shotguns, allowing the shooter to carry the rifle while walking in the field with safety on, yet effortlessly click it off and be ready to fire while shouldering the rifle.
Another innovation on the BRX1 is Beretta’s linear reloading system, making it fast and efficient to chamber with its straight-pull bolt. It takes a few times to get used to the action, but once you get that new muscle memory, you’ll never go back to a traditional bolt.
Shooting the BRX1
The BRX1 I shot was chambered in 6.5 Creedmoor. Not having a lot of experience with this caliber, I expected the BRX1 to pack more of a punch and the recoil to be like that of a 12-gauge shotgun, but I was pleasantly surprised with the soft felt recoil.
The smooth-operating straight-pull bolt was fast and efficient when chambering and ejecting the spent rounds. The ergonomics of the negative comb stock and the ability to adjust it easily gave the rifle an almost custom feel. Everything I needed was conveniently within reach, thanks to the BRX1’s superior engineering.
There was no need to take my cheek off the stock and fumble around to find the safety. A quick click with my thumb, and the safety was on or off while I maintained a firing position. Comfortable and intuitive, the rifle ran flawlessly and was literally a blast to shoot.
More Features
According to Beretta, you’ll be able to swap the barrel on the BRX1 for a different caliber, making this the one rifle you’ll need – no matter what game you’re hunting. In addition to the initial chamberings, it is anticipated that a Safari caliber will be introduced in 2025 (.375 H&H), perfect for plains game and big five animal safaris.
The barrel is threaded for a muzzle device, and the rifle has great ergonomics. The polymer stock with a negative comb and forend makes it comfortable and easy to get a solid grip. There are also two sling swivel attachments, providing everything needed for a comfortable day afield.
