In business since 1919, O.F. Mossberg & Sons has built a reputation for churning out firearms that blend affordability with reliability. Its bread-and-butter lines, like the pump-action Model 500 shotgun, bolt-action Patriot rifles, and MC2c semi-automatic handguns, continue strong sales.
While there are no earth-shattering additions for 2024, the company still managed to upgrade and accessorize a healthy number of models, all on display at SHOT Show 2024.
500 & 835 Turkey/Holosun Combos
There’s no denying optics on turkey guns are all the rage these days, and Mossberg is cashing in by offering a contingent of pre-rigged combinations. The company’s proven Model 500 pumps in .410 and 20 gauge, along with a magnum 12-gauge 835 Ulti-Mag already in full camo, now come complete with a Holosun HS407K Micro Dot optic.
For smaller-framed shooters, there’s even a Model 500 Super Bantam Turkey Holosun Micro Dot combo with removable length-of-pull spacers for a shorter fit. All these shotguns use a 20-inch barrel, Mossy Oak Greenleaf camo, and X-Full extended choke tube, making them clearly tailored for hardcore gobbler chasers.
International Silver Reserve Eventides
From Mossberg’s International series of overseas production shotguns comes the Silver Reserve Eventide family. This well-dressed line of over-under shotguns clearly targets hunters with most variants wearing full camouflage coverage. There’s a Turkey version with a 20-inch barrel chambered for 28, 20, and 12 gauge.
Goose and duck pursuers will appreciate the Waterfowl model sporting a 28-inch barrel, which pits camo stocks against Cerakote metalwork. For those more interested in home defense, there’s even a pair of black synthetic Eventide O/U shotguns in both 12 and 20 gauge. Each one is fitted with a mean-looking 18.5-inch barrel, optics rail, and lower barrel-mounted Pic rail.
These Eventide doubles all use a single trigger, dual locking lugs, chrome-lined barrels, and shell extractors.
940 JM Pro Additions
The Jerry Miculek speed-shooting influence continues with improvements to the namesake JM Pro line of autoloaders. New for 2024 is a JM Pro 5-Shot alongside a pair of 940 JM Pro Optic Ready variants. These fast-cycling gas guns have established themselves as favorites on the 3-gun circuit in large part due to well-thought-out features like rapid quad-loading readiness.
Model names are fairly self-explanatory with each of the three wearing a 24-inch barrel, optics-ready receiver cutout with removable cover plate, adjustable length of pull, and Briley choke tubes.
940 Pro Model Expansions
The continually growing 940 Pro family of gas-driven autoloaders continues to expand. For 2024, Mossberg announced the 12-gauge Snow Goose 5-Shot, Tactical, Sporting, and Super Bantam Sporting. The Snow Goose 5-Shot looks similar to its 12+1 sibling sporting snow camo but without the wildly extended magazine tube.
A pair of Tacticals with 18.5-inch barrels and full-length magazine tubes can be had with either OD green or FDE Cerakote metalwork against black synthetic stocks. The 940 Pro Sporting, meanwhile, uses a longer 30-inch barrel, adjustable walnut stock, HiViz CompSight, and Briley extended tubes.
Its downsized Super Bantam Sporting counterpart packs many of the same features with a shorter LOP between 12.5 and 14.25 inches on the black synthetic stock. It also sports a more compact 26-inch barrel.
Mossberg Patriot Adds .400 Win
Not much is changing in the wide world of the Mossberg Patriot bolt-action rifles after years of model additions that ranged from the long-range Tactical to the Predator. However, it’s worth noting that Mossberg is keeping up with the latest chamberings, adding .400 Winchester as an option for Patriot buyers this year.
The straight-walled Winchester round can be had in a Patriot rifle sporting either a walnut or synthetic stock. That follows quickly on the heels of recent additions of 7mm PRC and .338 Win Mag. Of course, all the “standard” chamberings ranging from .22-250 Rem to .375 Ruger remain.
Thunder Ranch Editions
Mossberg worked with Thunder Ranch President Clint Smith to put out a special run of aptly named editions to several existing Mossberg shotgun families. The 940 Pro Thunder Ranch is an optics-ready, logo-engraved, 18.5-inch barreled defender that uses a barrel clamp with M-LOK mounting slots and QD sling ports.
It boasts a 7+1 capacity and full Patriot Brown coverage. Likewise, the 590 Thunder Ranch pump-action 12-gauge utilizes many of the same features and aesthetics in a compact slide gun that’s dressed in Patriot Brown Cerakote metal against a black synthetic stock.
