Connecticut-based Colt's Manufacturing was recently awarded an eight-figure extension to a five-year military rifle contract originally issued in 2019. 

The modification, for $57,216,428, covers the production of Colt's M4 and M4A1 carbines and has an estimated completion date of Sept. 18, 2024.

The extension, issued by the Army's Contracting Command in Newark, New Jersey on May 16 and announced this week, is to a $41.9 million award that was originally issued in September 2019 which covered Foreign Military Sales to a host of U.S. allies around the world including Bahrain, Djibouti, Federated States of Micronesia, Hungary, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Macedonia, Marshall Islands, Palau, St. Vincent and Grenadines, and Tunisia. 

This comes on the heels of another large Army FMS contract announced earlier this month which would pay for upwards of $26 million worth of Colt M4s for Israel. The company also has a $9 million barrel contract with the Defense Logistics Agency that was announced last July. 

In September 2019, Colt suspended commercial sales of its AR-15 series so that it could make headway on its outstanding military contracts. It was able to later resume production for retail channels in mid-2020 after catching up on orders for Uncle Sam.
