Meet the New Smith & Wesson Performance Center M&P9 Carry Comp Series Pistols
Tennessee-based S&W on Tuesday debuted a new line of integrally compensated M&P 9mm handguns for 2024.
The Carry Comp Series pistols include a Shield Plus 4-inch barreled model as well as M&P 2.0 4.22-inch barrel models, with the latter offered in both in metal and polymer frame configurations. The key feature that sets these guns apart from the rest of Smith's catalog is what the company calls its "Power Port," located at the end of the barrel at the 12-o’clock position, which is designed to divert gas upward, hence reducing felt recoil, which in turn improves overall control and yields faster follow-up shots. The company previously used the "Carry Comp" moniker on a special run of the Model 19 .357 K-frame, which had a compensated barrel.
The 9mm Carry Comp pistols include a Shield Plus 4-inch barrel model that ships with 10-round, 13-round, and 15-round magazines and two M&P 2.0 4.22-inch barrel variants – offered in metal and polymer frame models – with 15-round and 17-round capacity magazines respectively. (Photos: S&W)
Standard features include tritium front night sights and blacked-out serrated rear sights. Note the aggressively angled front and rear serrations and gray Armornite-finished slides.
Optic-ready, they have what the company terms a ClearSight Cut that diverts gasses away from the user's installed optic, keeping those lenses pretty.
The guns in the new Carry Comp line ship with Performance Center cleaning kits, and interchangeable palmswell grip inserts on the more full-sized guns, which include two magazines. The Shield Plus variant, which does not use inserts, ships with three mags in 10-, 13-, and 15-round capacities.
When it comes to pricing, the Shield Plus Carry Comp has an MSRP of $649, while the larger pistols run $799 in the polymer frame and $999 in the metal frame versions.
