Colt’s Manufacturing Company stormed into SHOT Show 2025 looking to create major waves in its lineup. Colt is now offering guns from the factory with optics mounting options, starting with the 1911 Competition in 9+1 9mm and 8+1 .45 ACP versions.

Here's something you haven't seen from Colt before. (All photos: Alex Reville/Guns.com)

Each version will ship with a stainless-steel plate coated with black nitride for corrosion resistance. The plate also features a Glock dovetail rear sight. There will be three different optics cuts to start: Trijicon RMR, Shield RMSc, and Leupold Delta Point Pro.

The optic (DPP in this case) site very low on the slide.

Both the RMR and the RMSc plates will allow the end user to retain the rear sight, allowing your optic to co-witness with the iron sights. The pistol will retain everything else customers already loved about the gun, including the G10 grips and Novak red fiber-optic front sight.

What in the wheelgun is this?

If you’re more of a classic Colt wheel gun fan but are looking to bring it into the modern optics age, the company has you covered with two different plates for modern production (post-2020) revolvers. The RMSc plate will be offered for the Python and Anaconda models, and a second one will fit King Cobra models. The Kodiak and Grizzly models will also accept the plates for the Anaconda and Python.

Not gonna lie, it looks pretty good on this Python. A new twist on an old classic.

The best part? The new optics mounting plates won’t require a gunsmith to mount. Simply pop out the rear sight, and the optics plate will mount in place using the rear sight screw hole. The optic sits low and should be a hit with all Colt wheel gun fans. Expect to see this shipping soon with an expected MSRP of $79.
