Despite the seasonal drop in sales and the month only having 30 days, Americans still picked up lots of guns last month, just topping seven figures.
At least 1,909,294 federal background checks were processed through the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s National Instant Criminal Background Check System in June 2025.
When the National Shooting Sports Foundation adjusted the numbers for last month to remove gun permit checks and rechecks, the adjusted figure stands at a still strong 1,004,986. This is a slight drop of about 5 percent compared to the June 2024 NSSF-adjusted NICS figure of 1,059,037.
Of note, June 2025 was the 70th consecutive month that the number of adjusted background checks exceeded 1 million in a single month. This comes as blue states continue to chase anti-gun regulations and restrictions.
“Background checks in June remained over 1 million, despite the concerns of economic uncertainty and the usual cycle that NSSF sees in decreased background checks during the summer months," Mark Oliva, public affairs officer with the NSSF, told Guns.com via email. "That is also against the backdrop of states like Colorado and Oregon, which have enacted or are pursuing laws to make exercising Second Amendment rights more difficult and expensive for law-abiding gun owners. Rhode Island recently enacted a law to ban the sale of Modern Sporting Rifles (MSRs), which will take effect next year."

An excellent feature for the Shadow 2 Carry is its optics-ready slide, which is milled to directly mount an RMSc pattern red/green micro red dot without using a plate or adapter. We found the factory OEM sights co-witnessed in the lower third of the 507K perfectly. (Photo: Chris Eger/Guns.com).
