LMT Wins $93 Million SOCOM 6.5 Creedmoor Rifle Contract
LMT Defense of Eldridge, Iowa, last week was awarded a 10-year contract to provide Special Operators with a new 6.5 Creedmoor carbine.
The indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract was issued by the U.S. Special Operations Command and has a maximum ceiling of $92 million. It covers the new Medium Range Gas Gun-Assault carbine, including kits, spare parts and accessories, new equipment training, and engineering change proposals.
LMT and Geissele have competed for the past few years for both the full-sized (20-inch barrel) Mid-Range Gas Gun – Sniper (MRGG-S) and the more compact (14.5-inch) MRGG-A, both chambered in 6.5 CM. While Geissele got the $29 million nod for the MRGG-S in late 2023, LMT's recent award covers the smaller platform.

The news of the MRGG-A contract came days after an announcement for up to $40 million in 6.5 CM ammo from Black Hills.
The work on the MRGG-A will be performed at LMT's Iowa plant, with the last day to order under the contract being Aug. 14, 2035.
