The new .50 BMG bolt-action rifle from Auto-Ordnance was turning heads at SHOT Show when we first laid eyes on it, and as of this week, the beefy Thompson TAO50 is officially available for purchase.

At 25.5 pounds and just over 5 feet in overall length, the TAO50 features a 29-inch barrel chambered in .50-caliber BMG. The rifle is offered in Rugged Black or FDE versions, each equipped with a Magpul PRS Gen 3 stock, MOE+ grip, Timney AR-style trigger, and Accu-Tac bipod. This package aims to “provide unparalleled comfort, control, and ease of shooting.”

There’s also a full-length top Pic rail. The TAO50 uses the same 10-round magazine as the Barrett M107A1, but the company notes that the Barrett M107 muzzle brake or suppressor should not be used on the TAO50, as they are not rated for bolt-action rifles. The TAO50 barrel uses a 1:15 twist rate with 1:14 muzzle threads.

MSRP is set at $8,699 for the black model and $100 more for the FDE version. The rifles ship in a custom wheeled hard case.
